(GFI), a non-for-profit 501 (c)(3) organization, believes that the White River, its tributaries, and the greenways that border them are a valuable natural resource that provides opportunities for passive and active recreational uses, as well as for responsible and appropriate development. GFI will provide funding and other forms of support to public and/or private entities, such as environmental agencies, Scout troops, service clubs, schools, individuals, and others, to accomplish projects which protect, enhance, preserve, or develop areas in the White River watershed in Marion and adjacent counties in Indiana for enjoyment and use by the public, or which can provide educational opportunities as a part of a school's curriculum. Requests for grants shall be typewritten or computer generated and shall consist of the following: 1. A completed grant application cover sheet using the format given. 2. A project proposal (not to exceed two pages) containing the following information: a. Project name (as shown on cover sheet) and a brief description of the project (not to exceed two lines). b. Details of the project, including whether the project will be carried out by contract an/or by volunteer efforts, including the amount of volunteer effort. c. A budget, including specific information about the kinds of materials and equipment needed, and probable sources of supply and cost. Include list of in-kind donations and other funding sources anticipated. d. Dates project will begin and end. e. A description of how the project will protect, enhance, preserve an/or develop an area in the White River watershed and greenways for the enjoyment and use by the public; or how an educational curriculum will promote the understanding of participants toward the protection, enhancement, or preservation of the White River watershed and/or greenways. Include a list of measurable objectives to be achieved by the project. 3. A brief overview of the applicant organization, including: a. Information on its mission, history and membership profile. b. Its objectives in undertaking this project. c. Its plans for promoting, completing, operating, and maintaining the project upon completion. d. Other organizations cooperating in the project. The project completion report shall include an accounting of the funds received, number of participants and/or volunteer hours expended, measurement of proposed objective results, plans for maintenance and/or monitoring of the project, and suggestions for the future related projects. The Grant Review Committee will submit the grant application with a recommendation for the GFI Board of Directors for approval/disapproval. The process generally takes 60 to 90 days before a response can be given.
