Geology students at Ellenberger ParkOn September 29, IUPUI Geology students planted trees and spread herbaceous and grass seed to restore the Pleasant Run floodplain in Ellenberger Park. The volunteers planted 130 native trees and spread herbaceous and grass seed to start the restoration of this section of the Pleasant Run stream corridor. Trees include: Burr Oak (Quercus macrocarpa), Pin Oak (Quercus palustris), Red Oak (Quercus rubra), Swamp White Oak (Quercus bicolor), Red Maple (Acer rubrum), Sycamore (Plantanus occidentalis), and Eastern Red Bud (Cercis canadensis). Grasses include: Beak Grass (Diarrhena americana), River Bank Rye, and Virginia Wild Rye (Elymus virginicus). Herbaceous Include: Spiderwort (Tradescantia virginiana), Brown-eyed Susan (Rudbeckia triloba), and Wing Steam (Verbesina alternifolia).
